About

Takakurahiko Shrine in Takojima, Suzu, holds this autumn festival, which has been going for more than 200 years. It reflects the character of a fishing town, and its stars are kiriko, large lanterns that are carried around the district during the festival. Takojima's kiriko are lacquered all over, generously covered in gold leaf and finely carved, and are counted among the most beautiful and lavish in Noto. The other highlight is Hayafune Kyogen, performed in the shrine grounds on the festival's last night, an art that preserves the splendour of Edo culture and is designated an Intangible Folk Cultural Property of Ishikawa Prefecture.
