About
Held as the annual festival of two shrines, Yasaka and Inari, over the last Friday to Sunday of August, this is said to be the earliest autumn festival in northern Iwate. Portable shrines parade through town alongside local performing arts, including the Nesori Shishi Odori deer dance (an Iwate Prefecture intangible folk cultural property), Nanatsumono dances and kagura, and five festival floats. The floats follow the Nanbu style, and their great point of pride is that every one, from the decorations to the costumes on the figures, is handmade by its float team. On the second evening the floats roll through town after dark.
