About
Over three days each summer, central Ichinoseki comes alive with this festival. The main venue, Omachi, is lined with elaborate Tanabata star-festival decorations. The beat of the Toki-no-Taiko drum rings out, and a fireworks display celebrating the opening of the Iwai River season lights up the night sky. Portable shrines are paraded through town, and residents join lively group dances such as the Kochakoi Odori and Kuru-kuru Odori. The venue is only about a five-minute walk from JR Ichinoseki Station, so it is easy to drop by. The festival is run by an executive committee based at the Ichinoseki Chamber of Commerce, and traffic restrictions apply around the area.
