About
For more than 60 years this harbour festival has been a highlight of summer in Ofunato, a port town on the Sanriku coast. Over two days, the quays around Chayamae in Ofunato Port fill with events: a citizens' dance parade through the streets, a maritime Tanabata procession around the bay, and a variety of stage shows. The finale is a fireworks display over the harbour, and the mix of bursting colour overhead and Tanabata on the water makes for a scene only a seaside town can offer. Paid parking and reserved viewing seats are available near the venue.
