About
On the first Saturday of August, Nio in Mitoyo holds a summer festival whose centrepiece is an enormous dragon weighing about 3 tons, lifted high by a big crew of bearers. It runs from 14:00 to 21:00 around the Nio Civic Center, and from 20:00 the dragon is doused with water in the "ryu no mizu-abuse" – worth staying into the evening for.
