About
Yasuda Odori is a dance passed down in the Yasuda district of Shodoshima Town and designated an Intangible Cultural Property of Kagawa Prefecture. Its appeal lies in the contrast between the city-style women's dance and the plain, rustic men's dance, and it keeps the dance forms of the Genroku era remarkably well. It is said to have begun in the early Edo period and been shaped into its present form late in that era by kabuki actors who settled here from the Kamigata region. The dancing is held at the Yasuda Elementary School grounds and the Yasuda Community Center, usually starting in the evening. There is no parking, so plan how you will get there; enquiries go to the Yasuda Community Center.
