About
Yoron Island's largest summer festival takes place around Chabana Beach, and it is very much a local creation: the island's youth association handles everything from planning to running the day. Usually there is a parade, bon dancing, stage shows and portable shrines, and the seaside town comes alive with summer energy. Fireworks close the night, and because they go up close to where people watch, the bursts and booms feel enormous. For anyone visiting Yoron in summer, it is a chance to mingle with islanders on a lively night out. Dates may shift if a typhoon is approaching.
