About
Yokohama Chinatown welcomes the lunar new year, Chunjie or the Spring Festival, which is a major celebration in China. The district has held its own Spring Festival events every year since 1986 so visitors can enjoy it much as people do in China, and 2026 was its 40th. Highlights include Goraku Hyoen, performances of traditional Chinese arts, and Shukubu Yuko, a parade of performers in glittering costumes that winds through the streets. For its 40th edition in 2026, a lion dance and a face-changing show were added in the streets. Most events cost nothing to watch, but a few have paid seats, and rain plans vary from event to event.
