About

The summer grand festival of Tsuno Shrine, the foremost shrine of the old Hyuga Province, is the highlight of summer in the town of Tsuno. Over two days, the deity's procession makes a round of the town: on day one it leaves the shrine and enters a temporary resting place in Kitamachi, and on day two it sets out again and returns home. Stop to watch the lion dances and the graceful Urayasu-no-mai performed at points along the route. Each district's taiko drum float also tours its own part of town. Stage events and food stalls round out a classic Japanese summer festival. For inquiries, contact Tsuno Shrine, the Tsuno Town Tourism Association or the Tsuno Town Chamber of Commerce.
