About
Togakushi, a village renowned for soba, holds this festival every autumn, with its 57th edition in 2026. At its center is the new soba offering ceremony, when soba makers present noodles from buckwheat they grew themselves to the deities of Togakushi in thanks for the harvest. A procession bearing soba made by three chosen craftsmen enters the grounds of Togakushi Shrine Chusha; in 2026 this takes place on October 30. The blessed soba is then served in limited amounts at participating restaurants and temple lodgings. From September into early October, a ticket booklet lets you compare half-size portions of chilled soba at different shops; it must be booked online in advance. There is also a rakugo show, a photo contest and free tastings by the local high school soba club. In Togakushi new soba comes twice a year, in summer and autumn.
