About
For two summer days, central Oita City celebrates Tanabata. The first night belongs to Funai Pacchin, big floats lit from within and shaped like armored warriors and rising dragons, which charge spiritedly through the streets. On the second day the venue splits into five areas, each with its own events. Throughout, the shopping streets hang colorful, imaginative Tanabata decorations. The main venue is the 480,000 People's Plaza on Chuo-dori. 2026 marked the festival's 45th edition. Roads around the venue are closed to traffic during the festival.
