About
On August 15 and 16 every year, Yufuin holds its summer festival. The first evening brings the Kojosai procession and fireworks; the second is a Bon dance night. Kojosai revives an old rite of chasing pests from the fields to pray for a good harvest, and the highlight is the men marching through town behind a decorated float. Fireworks follow the procession, lighting up the Yufuin basin. Some roads are closed to vehicles or pedestrians during the festival. 2026 marks the festival's 58th edition, starting at 7 p.m. on both days.
