About

Fireworks have been a summer fixture in Tachikawa since the first Tachikawa summer fireworks show in 1954. The venue is Showa Kinen Park, around a 30-minute walk from Tachikawa Station, where you can sit on the broad lawns and watch at your leisure. Expect 1.5-shaku shells that open to about 400 meters across and lavish wide starmines, plus a showdown of Geikyo-dama, Takumi-dama and other shells that have scored highly at national competitions and can be seen nowhere else. In 2026 the viewing setup changed considerably, with large parts of the park becoming paid areas that need tickets bought in advance.
