About

Over three days, June 18 to 20 each year, Kannonji Temple and the main shopping streets of Nyuzen Town host this festival. The temple's Kannon image is said to have been carved by the monk Gyoki into a stone he came across on his travels through Hokuriku. The festival is believed to have continued since the Taisho era, and a great many stalls from inside and outside Toyama crowd the town center during it. At the temple, services and prayers run from the opening rite on June 18, through a grand memorial service and pilgrim hymns on June 19, to the closing on June 20. It is about a five-minute walk from Nyuzen Station on the Ainokaze Toyama Railway.
