About
Shimonoseki's citywide summer festival is the event that tells locals summer is drawing to a close. Its motto is "song, dance and a night market for everyone." The main stage is Kaikyo Yume Hiroba, and night stalls stretch from JR Shimonoseki Station to the Karato area while singing and dancing break out all over town. Don't miss the Heike Odori mass dance on the last day, when about 2,000 dancers join in, or the recreated procession of the Joseon Korean envoys. It is free to watch. Roads around the venue are closed, so take public transport; extra trains run on the festival days. Inquiries go to the Shimonoseki festival joint council office in the city's tourism policy division.
