About
From August 13 to 16, over Obon, venues all around Ono City fill with dancing and festivities. It kicks off on August 13 with a big fireworks show at Managawa Ikoi-no-shima (August 14 if it rains), and peaks on the nights of August 15 and 16, when Rokken-dori Street is packed with circles of people dancing Echizen Ono Odori; at this time of year the whole town is given over to bon dancing. Open practice sessions are held beforehand, so newcomers can easily join in. At Yui Station there is a water park for kids, along with charcoal-grilled tonchan and food trucks. The festival began in 1968, inspired by the rebuilding of Echizen Ono Castle on Mount Kameyama.
