About
On a summer evening, the beach at Kehi-no-Matsubara, Tsuruga's celebrated pine grove, hosts lantern floating followed by a big fireworks show. First, as monks chant sutras, colorful paper lanterns are released onto the sea and drift quietly on the waves; then the mood flips to a vivid display set to music, and the contrast between the hush and the spectacle is what stays with you. The 2026 theme is "Tsuruga Fireworks Story," with the show built in chapters that trace, in light, the history and landscapes of a port town where sea routes and land routes meet. You can buy a lantern and float it yourself, and paid seating is available at the beach huts. The event goes ahead in light rain but is cancelled in stormy weather. Take the Matsubara community bus line from JR Tsuruga Station to the Kehi-no-Matsubara stop and walk a short way; temporary parking is planned around the city.
