About
On winter nights in Aizuwakamatsu, the town lights up with candles, with Tsuruga-jo Castle at the heart of it all. About 10,000 flames flicker at the castle, at Oyakuen, once the garden of the Matsudaira lords of Aizu, at Aizu-Wakamatsu Station and elsewhere, among them the city's hand-painted Aizu candles, a traditional local craft. The painted candles give the winter night a gentle, warm glow. The previous edition was cancelled due to record snowfall; this one returned under the theme "Aizu's prayers, in a thousand lights." Contact the Aizu Festival Association for details.
