About

Along the Udatsu Historic Townscape in Mino, around 300 lamps made with Mino washi paper are set out in an exhibition of light art. Works are invited from all over Japan and judged in two categories, general and elementary/junior high students. The show runs in two parts: in the first, that year's entries are displayed and judged; in the second, they are replaced with award winners from past years. Soft light filtering through washi dots the streets, which keep the feel of the Edo period, and walking among them is a quiet play of shadow and glow. The works sit in acrylic cases, so a rainy night is no problem. Viewing is free; contact the Mino City Tourism Association, which runs the committee office.
