About

Each autumn, the old Nakasendo post town of Ota-juku in Minokamo holds a festival planned and run largely by residents rather than the city. Together with the autumn citizens' fireworks, it forms the Onsai MINOKAMO celebrations. The thing to see is the princess procession: Princess Kazunomiya, who married the fourteenth shogun Tokugawa Iemochi, leads other princesses wed to shoguns, along with samurai and retainers, through the post town around the Ota-juku Nakasendo Hall. The colorful line brings the history of this Edo-period highway vividly to life. There are also stage events and a market, enough to fill the day. The festival aims to bring the community together and hand Ota-juku's culture to the next generation.
