About
Held every year in late October, Utazu's autumn festival combines the grand festivals of Ubushina Shrine and Shiogama Shrine. The sight to see is more than ten drum floats squeezing through narrow lanes between old townhouses; when the call comes and they are hoisted high in unison, the crowd breaks into cheers and applause. The lion dance is the two-person style, in which one young dancer handles the head and forelegs and the other the hind legs and body, moving as one.
