About
A beloved autumn tradition in Takanabe, this festival lines the area around Maizuru Park with about 10,000 lanterns. When the sun goes down, their gentle light gives the autumn night a dreamlike glow. A lighting ceremony takes place in Maizuru Park in the late afternoon, and stage events and more run from midday into the night. Lighting the lanterns together is also a way of passing on to the next generation the teachings of Meirindo, Takanabe's pride, and the history of the town. By car, the venue is about 10 minutes from the Takanabe IC on the Higashi-Kyushu Expressway; from JR Takanabe Station, it is about 15 minutes by bus and then about 10 minutes on foot. Aim to arrive in the late afternoon in time for the lighting ceremony.
