About
Tsuyama Matsuri is the umbrella name for the autumn festivals of three Tsuyama shrines: Osumi, Tokumori and Takano. The star is Tokumori Shrine's great portable shrine, said to be one of the three great mikoshi of Japan, which surges through the city along with danjiri floats. Every one of the festivals brings out danjiri, and there are events at venues around town. The three are held on separate Sundays in October: in 2026, the Osumi Shrine festival is on October 18, and the Takano and Tokumori festivals are on October 25. The tradition goes back 400 years.
