About
On August 16 every year, lanterns drift on the mouth of the Gonokawa River and a fireworks show caps Gotsu's summer festival. The glow on the water, together with the illumination high on Mt. Hoshitaka, makes for a night view you only get in Gotsu. Earlier in the evening, crowds of residents dance along National Route 9 outside JR Gotsu Station in the Gotsu Ondo parade. Stages at the Palette Gotsu plaza by the station and on the riverbank host Iwami Kagura and other shows, there is a tent village, and roughly 130 night stalls open. The organizer is the Gonokawa Festival Executive Committee, based at the Gotsu Chamber of Commerce and Industry.
