About

Matsue's summer festival is built around fireworks over Lake Shinji, launched from four barges anchored on the water so that the colors are mirrored on the dark lake as well as in the sky. Look for rapid diagonal volleys, strings of large shells, all four barges firing at once and cascading "curtain" bursts that make the most of the open lake. For 2026, 21,000 shells over 2 days were planned, along with a drone show. The "Matsue Dandan" events add stages and food booths. The festival is run by a council of Matsue City, the Matsue Chamber of Commerce and Industry, the Matsue Tourism Association and others.
