About
The streets around JR Awa-Ikeda Station in the Ikeda area of Miyoshi host this summer Awa Odori. After an eve event, the main nights see dance troupes from the city and beyond move through town to the sound of their musicians. What sets it apart is how close you are to the action: on the station-front avenue, Sakaemachi and Ginza streets, the parading dancers pass within arm's reach. Circle dancing in the station plaza and performances at the dance stages show off each troupe's style, from powerful men's dances to supple women's dances. Part of Sakaemachi Street has seating, and troupes rotate on the stage in Hessokko Park. Everything is right by the station, so coming by train is simple.
