About
Tokushima's signature summer dance festival is said to have more than 400 years of history. Every year from August 11 to 15, crowds from across Japan and overseas pour into central Tokushima City. On August 11, the Takumi no Butai Masaribi stage show takes place at Asty Tokushima. From August 12, troupes perform all over town: at the Yume no Butai Matsuribi show in Awagin Hall, at ticketed stands in Aibahama, Minami-uchimachi and Konyamachi, at free stands in Ryogoku-honmachi and Shinmachibashi, and in dance plazas. You can walk to the venues from JR Tokushima Station. Newcomers are welcome to join in; as a local saying puts it, lift your hands and move your feet and you are dancing Awa Odori.
