About
Each spring, usually from mid to late April, Takiyama Park in Hino Town celebrates its azaleas with the Tsutsuji Matsuri. Roughly 30,000 azalea bushes flower across the park, bringing crowds of flower-viewers; in autumn the same park is a well-known spot for fall color. Takiyama Shrine stands inside the park and holds its annual festival on April 29. On the shrine grounds, Ryuo Falls drops about 35 meters, and it is the very waterfall Lafcadio Hearn (Koizumi Yakumo) turned into the haunted falls of "The Legend of Yurei-Daki." Take a detour from the azalea paths to see the setting of Hearn's ghost story.
