About
When the cherry trees and azaleas bloom, Kurayoshi fills its calendar with events big and small for its spring festival. The heart of it is Mt. Utsubuki, the city's emblem and home to a legend of a celestial maiden, together with Utsubuki Park around it, where there are some 4,000 cherry trees and around 40,000 azaleas. The fifty-second festival, in 2026, ran from March 19 to June 30 and included lanterns lit in Utsubuki Park, light-ups of the Hiryukaku hall, rites such as the Utsubuki doll-floating ceremony, plus exhibitions, sumo and walking events. After the blossoms, wander over to the white-walled storehouse district. Inquiries go to the festival promotion association based at the Kurayoshi Chamber of Commerce.
