About

This spring doll-floating rite takes place on the Tamagawa, the narrow waterway between Kurayoshi's white-walled storehouses. Following a Shinto ceremony, people release votive plaques featuring hina dolls, with their wishes written on them, onto the water, praying for children to grow up healthy and for the stream to be clean. You can buy a plaque on site. It is held near the Togiyamachi children's playground and organized by the Kurayoshi Utsubuki Lions Club. The tourism association lists it for the first Sunday of April, and in 2026 the fortieth edition started at 10:00 on April 5. As one of the ritual events of the Kurayoshi Spring Festival, it fits easily into a walk around the old storehouse streets.
