About
Misasa Onsen, a hot spring town known for its radium-rich water, holds this summer festival every year to thank Marie Curie, who discovered radium, and celebrate her achievements. From early afternoon, food stalls and food trucks gather in town, local children and performing groups take the stage at Curie Plaza, and there are water activities down by the river. Toward evening, dance troupes move through the streets to tunes such as Misasa Kouta in the Waiwai Parade, and after dark fireworks go up over the Misasa River near Koidani Bridge. From afternoon until night, the whole hot spring town becomes the festival ground.
