About
On the shore of Lake Togo in Yurihama, central Tottori, this summer festival is above all about the big fireworks show launched over the lake. Young people from the Matsuzaki district started it in 1949, naming it Suigosai partly as thanks to the lake's god for safe fishing and good catches, and it is considered the first summer festival in the prefecture. There is a portable shrine procession and a floating of lanterns, and the Ronin Odori, a Tottori Prefecture Intangible Folk Cultural Property, has been danced here since the second festival. At night the fireworks color the sky and the surface of the lake at once. It has become one of the San'in region's best-known summer festivals, with many visitors coming from outside the town.
