About
Fujiyoshida, at the foot of Mount Fuji, has made textiles for over a thousand years with the help of Fuji's spring water. It is an unusual weaving center that turns out many different kinds of fabric, and more and more mills have recently launched their own brands. The Hataori Machi Festival, or Hatafes, is an autumn event set in the streets of Shimoyoshida, where buildings from the old weaving days and back-alley bar lanes still remain. Omuro Sengen Shrine, parking lots, garages and old buildings all become venues, so you can handle fabrics as you explore the neighborhood. On the last day, Honcho-dori is closed to cars.
