About
Daigahara, once a busy post town on the Koshu Kaido highway, holds this market for 3 days every October, starting on the third Friday. "New things" and "good old things" gathered from all over Japan fill about 750 meters of the old highway and Hotaru Shinsui Park. The antiques section is set up inside a sake brewery founded more than 370 years ago, where you can hunt for finds among Japanese and Western pieces such as paintings, tea utensils, ceramics and old household tools. Makers bring handmade pottery, dyed goods, woodwork and glass, and there are bonsai, floral crafts, local farm produce and food stalls too. Around 50,000 people visit over the 3 days.
