About

Kuji's autumn festival honours three shrines, though today it is effectively the festival of the Daijingu shrine. Floats and processions took their current form from the late Meiji era, and since 2007 every float team has built its own. There are no professional float makers: team members gather after work from around early May to build floats that are light enough for local children to pull yet lavish enough to wow the crowds, often with moving gimmicks. The theme changes every year. After an eve celebration in front of the station, the floats parade out on the first day, local folk arts take over the middle day, and the floats make their return trip on the last day.

On the day, see what locals are murmuring on the murmur map
