About
Tono's signature celebration of its folk performing arts brings together many of the more than 60 groups active in the city. Shishi odori deer dances and kagura are joined by Nanbu-bayashi, sansa and rice-planting dances, all in vivid costume, while portable shrines are carried through the streets. On day one, the station-front avenue hosts a folk arts parade, a mass deer dance and joint performances into the evening. On day two the festival moves to Tonogo Hachimangu Shrine, with Tono Nanbu horseback archery offered on the riding ground, the baba-meguri on the same ground and kagura in the shrine's dance hall.
