About
For one day each year, Katsurahama Park in Kochi City, a place deeply bound up with Sakamoto Ryoma, becomes a festival ground. The park's bronze statue of Ryoma gazes out toward the Pacific; it went up in 1928, paid for by young admirers who traveled around the prefecture collecting donations. Also in the park is the Sakamoto Ryoma Memorial Museum, where letters and other materials trace his life and achievements, an easy stop between events. A variety of events fill the day, and parking at Katsurahama is free, but roads nearby become heavily congested, so public transport is the smart choice.
