In the Akashina area of Azumino, a summer fireworks display lights up the sky above the Sai River. The organizing committee builds a program that includes shells timed to music, and the show pulls in big crowds every year. All viewing is ticketed, and anyone of elementary school age or older needs a ticket. Choices range from regular seats to group tickets for four, tables that seat up to six, and chairs. Since you sit on bare earth, a picnic mat is a good idea; chairs, tents and tripods must stay at home. Rain will not stop the show, though stormy weather will. Extra trains and shuttle buses run, roads nearby are closed, and the limited parking is available only with a parking ticket.
