About
Ueda, a castle town where Ueda Castle and other historic buildings remain, puts on this fireworks show each summer. Shells are launched from the bank of the Chikuma River downstream of Tokida Shinbashi Bridge, about 5 minutes on foot from Ueda Station, where the Hokuriku Shinkansen, the Shinano Railway and the Ueda Electric Railway meet. Around 8,000 shells go up in a program built mostly around starmines. For the finale, three local fireworks makers from Ueda, Suzaka and Nagano combine their work in one display. Its 39th show, in 2026, also celebrated the 130th anniversary of the Ueda Chamber of Commerce and Industry and finished without trouble. Crowds are heavy, so public transport is the best option; drivers can use paid lots nearby. An executive committee at the chamber of commerce runs the event.
