About
Iida's own citizens' festival falls on the Saturday during the Iida Puppet Festa. It takes place in the city center that locals call "the hill." From midday into the evening, shop owners run the Fureai Apple Town events, and once night falls, teams of neighbors, colleagues, families and friends pour into Chikumachi, Ginza-dori and Chuo-dori to dance, calling out "Ringon, ringon, hoi, oina!" The Ringon dance was made by local people and has three parts: raising a lion-dance head, the wild waves of the Tenryu River, and fireworks opening in the night sky. Message fireworks and the main fireworks go up between rounds of dancing, and prizes, including the Ringon Grand Prize, go to the best teams.
