In summer, fireworks rise from launch platforms floating on Lake Suwa; its 78th show took place on August 15, 2026. The signature act is the water starmine, a burst of fireworks right at the water's surface that you can only see at a lake, followed by many other large set pieces. Because mountains surround the lake, every boom bounces back off the slopes and resonates deep in your chest. Along the shore there are paid viewing areas, including mat seats, chairs and spots for photographers, plus a food court. The show goes on in the rain. The venue is about a 10-minute walk from Kami-Suwa Station on the JR Chuo Line. Roads are packed on the day, and the official temporary parking is paid and requires advance booking. The organizer is the Lake Suwa Festival committee, with its office in the Suwa City tourism section.
