About
Over two days, central Anan turns into one big summer festival built around Awa Odori dancing and fireworks, with more than 100 food stalls spread through the area. Day one starts with an opening ceremony and parade; after that, stage shows run in Ushiki Castle Ruins Park and dance groups compete at stages set up by City Hall, Anan Station and Higashi-Shinmachi. A student-run committee also sends balloon lanterns up into the night sky. On day two, the groups gather at the City Hall stage for a mass dance, and fireworks over Hamanoura Ryokuchi Park wrap things up. The festival area covers Ushiki Castle Ruins Park, City Hall, the station front and the Tomioka shopping streets. Expect road closures nearby; temporary parking lots are provided.
