About

This summer festival in Mugi grew out of a sad love story attached to Himegami, an oddly shaped rock on Mugi Oshima island, and it is sometimes called Mugi's unusual festival. It starts with a Shinto rite in front of the town hall, after which a Himegami symbol is paraded to Nishinohama Beach, where the Himegami market brings food stalls and food trucks. Evening entertainment includes live music by young performers and vigorous Awa Odori by local dance groups. To close, 700 fireworks go up around Mugi Port, the highlight being a 30 cm shell said to be the only one in southern Tokushima. Mugi Station on the JR Mugi Line is within walking distance. The program may change with the weather.
