About
This summer festival in the Torigoe area of Hakusan remembers the people who fought in the Ikko Ikki uprisings. Torigoe Castle here is regarded as the uprising's last stronghold, where its defenders clashed fiercely with the forces of Oda Nobunaga, and a memorial ceremony is held to honour them. Around the Ikko Ikki no Sato roadside station, food tents gather to form a festival village, with local products on sale and an evening of dancing. Once it gets dark, 10,000 candles are lit for Torigoe Mantoka, and the night closes with the Hakusan Torigoe Hokkoku fireworks. Because the valley is ringed by mountains, the bangs echo back and forth with real force.
