About
This long-standing festival prays for peace and prosperity in Oshino Village and honors the Hachidai Ryuo, the eight dragon kings that guard Oshino Hakkai. Because of the "eight" in Hakkai, it is held every year on August 8, the liveliest day of Oshino's summer. After dark come 5,888 fireworks that color the sky, and the Hachimonji-yaki, when the grass on Mount Takaza is burned in the shape of the character for eight to pray for the villagers' health and a rich harvest. From the daytime, the grounds of Oshino Junior High School host stage events and character shows, so all ages can enjoy the whole day. The 2026 festival was the forty-ninth.
